Greek is official language and is predominate everywhere in Greece
Can be divided into 4 stages: Ancient Greek- subdivided into Mycenaean Greek, and Archaic and Classical Greek. The language of the latter periods had numerous dialects.
Koine- arose during the reign of Alexander the Great in the 4th century. A common language with simplified grammar, it spread throughout the Hellenized world. Purists who rejected Koine as a corruption of Attic Greek successfully advocated adoption of the Classical language for all writing
Byzantine Greek- stayed rooted in the Attic tradition while the spoken language continued to develop.
Modern Greek- dating from the 15th century, has many local dialects. Standard Modern Greek, Greece's official written and spoken language

Even though religion is an inseparable part of Greek Life, most people don’t attend church regularly. Older people tend to go more than younger people, and women tend to go more than men. Citizens of Greece attend church. They celebrate all of the same holidays as Christians (Christmas, Easter, etc)
